What I struggle with, especially for Covid, is that since the beginning of the pandemic, it's been reported that 40 to 60% of infections are asymptomatic. I'm still concerned about transmission and spread, trying not to get Covid, so I'm disappointed that there's not more testing and that the CDC dropped isolation guidelines.
Thanks for this. Yes the asymptomatic and presymptomatic spread have made COVID especially challenging. There was a time when people were using precautionary testing more, especially before large gatherings or visiting vulnerable loved ones. In the UK we got free rapid tests for over a year which made this quite easy, but that eventually was lifted. As more rapid tests are developed that can test for multiple viruses, it could be a good public health move to subsidize these for the public, especially during respiratory illness season. Home testing really is something new that came out of the pandemic that I think we should try to normalize from now on for sure.
