No. Dementia is an umbrella term for changes in memory and thinking that impair how a person functions. Several different underlying diseases can cause dementia. Alzheimer’s disease is one of those.
You stated that we will see more cases of dementia are our ability to detect it improves. Won’t we also see it because people can live longer than ever before? Does age contribute to risk factors for the disease?
Great question! Yes. Dementia and Alzheimer's disease are both associated with older age or age-related. As people live longer, we expect the number of cases to increase. However, aging itself does not cause dementia or Alzheimer's disease.
