Breaking News on Pfizer/BioNTech Boosters
CDC Director overrules ACIP to include those at high risk due to occupational exposures
Boosters for Pfizer/BioNTech approved for large group of Americans.
CDC Director overrules ACIP and also includes those at high risk due to occupational exposures.
Update from this week's ACIP meeting:
ACIP recommended 3rd doses for Pfizer/BioNTech recipients 65+ more than 6 months past their 2nd dose, and for persons 18-64 with underlying medical conditions.
ACIP voted NO on boosters based on occupational exposures including health care workers.
CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky made the unusual move of OVERIDING the ACIP recommendations to include those with occupational risks (health care workers, teachers, and other workers at risk) in the booster recommendations.
Still NOT answered--boosters for Moderna & Johnson & Johnson recipients. ACIP waiting for specific data from those companies.
"At CDC, we are tasked with analyzing complex, often imperfect data to make concrete recommendations that optimize health,β Walensky said. βIn a pandemic, even with uncertainty, we must take actions that we anticipate will do the greatest good.β
Stay safe. Stay sane. Get vaccinated.
